Yana and Ty’s wedding at the Sharon Community Center

I photographed Yana and Ty’s wedding at the Sharon Community Center Sunday, August 31, 2008. They are competitive ballroom dancers, so we were entertained by their skills throughout the wedding. Funnily enough, they started out their first dance with the sway of the usual wedding slow dance. Nearly everyone, including myself, had that “what the heck?” look on our faces, until they ended their spoof and kicked it up with some real dance moves!

We lucked out with a nice sunset. Yana and Ty aren’t shy on the dance floor, but they are self aware when being photographed. Thankfully they obliged this photograph made quick with help holding a light from their videographer so I wouldn’t have to set up a light stand. I think they’ll appreciate the results. (For photographers out there- I used a Honl grid over a Nikon SB-800 flash unit off camera triggered by pocket wizard multimax transceivers)

Matt & Meg’s Wedding At Moraine Farm in Beverly

I photographed Matt and Meg’s wedding at Moraine Farm in Beverly, MA Friday, August 29th. I think Moraine Farm is my new favorite venue for receptions. The conference center has a veranda that overlooks Wenham Lake. It reminds me of a villa on an Italian landscape and it seems remarkably secluded despite being in an otherwise bustling Beverly. That might be because the lake has no other buildings on the shoreline and there are no boats. There’s a huge lawn for a tented wedding, an enclosed gazebo for a stunning backdrop for a wedding ceremony, and stately gardens for abudant photographic possibilites. Matt and Meg are really nice people, and they love photography. They had me for 9 hours so we could spend some extra time getting photographs all over the property, and I think they’ll agree it was well worth it.

Matt writes the wedding date with his finger on the dusty window of a shed at Moraine Farm. This is why the photos of the getting ready beforehand are so important. Meg would never see this and it might be forgotten if it weren’t photographed. This was a spontaneous moment while I was doing some shots of the guys beforehand. This photo can be a nice discovery for Meg to make after the wedding– I’m sure rain or additional dust has worn it away, but it is forever captured for them to remember, and I’m glad I had a part in it.

I like how this photo shows off Meg’s engagement ring, earring, hair and flower detail. They had great color tones at their wedding. The guys had light green vests that complemented the ladies dresses but weren’t too “matchy match” to quote one of the bridesmaids!

I decided to have a little fun and asked the girls to do their best kung fu pose. As it would happen, I’m taking classes in arnis, which is a filipino stickfighting martial art and my instructor is mixing in some kung fu influences. Interestingly, Meg’s pose resembles a legitimate fighting position in kung fu. Hmmm….the rest of the ladies, well, this was open to artistic interpretation…..

Matt likes the fisheye effect and asked me to do a group shot of the whole wedding–I managed to secure access from a second floor window with help from Moraine Farm staff for this shot overlooking Wenham Lake and the veranda where cocktails were being served.

The gardens and fountain make for an amazing backdrop for formal photographs. I think Moraine Farm is one of those hidden gems for wedding venues.

Comfortable shoes and pirate socks. Matt has a thing for pirates!

Matt’s dad took the easy way out for the limbo–seated, in a chair, with an assist!

Matt and Meg didn’t tire, even later in the evening, in our efforts to work the angles and take advantage of the setting and lighting for some really nice romantic photographs.

Those are lanterns in the tent in this motion-blur shot, but it kind of looks like something the best man has thrown into the air.

I like how everyone in this photo is making a variety of funny faces, and it’s totally candid!
