About Kevin

Kevin Jacobus – Owner/Lead PhotographerPhotographer Kevin Jacobus

My Approach:  Photography to me is less about reliving the moment, and more about experiencing it in a new way. Sometimes events happen in the blink of an eye. The photograph offers an opportunity to view as close as an approximation to the actual moment to varying degrees depending on the angle, lens, light and intent of the photographer. In photographing people and events, my goal is to understand the subject enough to remain as true to the nature of the event or person so that the viewer is left with an accurate impression. With landscapes, I am not quite so literal, and this is because my goal is to make an image that is purely for aesthetic value. In the making of a landscape photograph, I may use time exposures or a series of images photographed at different exposures and tone-mapped to create a single new image.

A wedding offers ample opportunity to photograph people at the best of times with décor and backdrops to create beautiful portraits and scenes. During my years of experience as a newspaper photographer that was often not the case. In those moments a photographer could have created images that were marked by grit and darkness. I think if I might have had a bias, it was to find some balance when photographing challenging moments experienced by my subjects. It could have been pleasing light, a respectful timing of image capture, or focusing on the dignity of the human spirit in a person’s expression.

My Experience:  I have extensive experience in documentary photography having worked for newspapers throughout New England and New York. I graduated from the nationally recognized, top rated S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in 1995 and have been photographing everything from professional sports and presidential campaigns to the daily lives of everyday people since.

The Syracuse Newspapers, The Patriot Ledger, The Telegraph of Nashua and The Lowell Sun are among the newspapers where I’ve been a staff photographer, and I’ve taken assignments for the Los Angeles Times, The Baltimore Sun, MetLife, and New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. I count among my favorite images a photograph I made for Life Magazine of a Good Friday observance that helped illustrate an essay on religion by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Frank McCourt.

SERVICES:

Photography:  Wedding photography in Boston and throughout New England is my major focus, with the addition of a team of associate photographers as well for celebrations, business and social events, bat/bar mitzvahs as well as commercial and editorial assignments. Depending on client needs one or more photographers can be selected.

Video: My associates are available for wedding video and other social and business event film projects in the Boston area. We are able to provide high definition video on Blu-ray disk. We use an assortment of microphone systems to obtain intimate, crystal clear sound quality while remaining unobtrusive with a documentary style. We use the latest in state-of-the-art gear including HDSLR cameras such as the Canon 7D and 5D Mark II digital cameras for a cinema-style look to the image with narrow depth of field for beautiful, film-like pictures. Head over to our video and multimedia gallery to see what we can produce.
