Fundraiser for Haiti update

Thank you to all the donors who participated in my Partners in Health fundraiser for Haiti relief. Craig Jackson of Milford, NH is the winner of the signed canvas print.

Though the signed print is spoken for, I’ll update the fundraiser page and keep it live. Haiti needs help, and continuing efforts of any scale are important.

Stand With Haiti-Make a Donation and Compete for a Signed Canvas Print

I’ve been brainstorming ways of using my creative endeavors to help Haiti earthquake victims throughout the week with my girlfriend and at one point we were talking about a canvas print I had made of a Caribbean beach scene and what I would charge for it. It occured to me today that I should hold a competition for it, where the person who donates the most to Partners in Health receives the print. Rather than hold an auction where only one person pays, I thought that the collective efforts of many people competing with their donations would raise more for Partners in Health.

About the Fundraiser

I’m offering to provide a 50-34 inch mounted canvas print of this sunset scene I photographed while visiting St. Lucia in November 2009 to the person or organization who makes the largest donation on my page for Partners in Health. Click on the link or the First Giving widget in the right sidebar on this page to donate. Donors may re-visit the page and make additional donations to in order to compete to be the highest donor in order to receive the print, which will be personally signed by Kevin Jacobus. Whoever has made the largest contribution by midnight January 31st will receive the print. If there is a tie for donation amount, a drawing will be held among the highest donors to determine a winner. Donations are securely processed by First Giving and are sent directly to Partners in Health.

About the Photograph

This image is an HDR image of a view of Jalousie Beach on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. This HDR (High-dynamic-range) photograph was achieved by capturing multiple standard photographs using exposure bracketing. The images were then merged into a single image and tone-mapped to reduce the dynamic range, or contrast ratio, of the entire image, while retaining localized contrast to match how the human eye perceives a scene-essentially to represent the whole dynamic range while retaining realistic color and contrast.

The scope the disaster is truly enormous, and a tremendous influx of immediate aid is needed to avert an even greater loss of life. Partners In Health has been working in Haiti for nearly 25 years. Our local team is already working to ensure PIH’s coordinated relief efforts, leveraging the skills of more than 120 doctors and nearly 500 nurses and nursing assistants who work at established sites throughout Haiti.

Maria and Bill’s Wedding at the Bedford Village Inn

So the Bedford Village Inn happens to be the venue I’ve photographed the most events this year-4 weddings in all. The latest was Maria and Bill’s wedding. Maria’s mom surprised the couple with a horse-drawn carriage to deliver Maria and her father to the ceremony and for the newly married couple to take a ride around the property after their ceremony. Bill bravely proposed to Maria in front of a crowd at Faneuil Hall in Boston. Becca, my intern from MassArt for the summer, attended her first wedding as my assistant and to try her skills as a second photographer.
