Peter & Cynthia’s Andover Country Club Wedding

Peter & Cynthia’s Andover Country Club Wedding

August’s first wedding of the month found me at the Andover Country Club to photograph Peter and Cynthia’s wedding. Peter is a photography enthusiast, so the couple was happy to oblige some extra portrait time so we could do some high dynamic range portraits with the front of the club as a backdrop in the evening. The late afternoon light after the ceremony lent itself nicely to some carefully placed lens flare that lends a visual time stamp and mood to portraits of Cynthia and Peter.

Heather & Michael’s Lanam Club wedding

Heather & Michael’s Lanam Club wedding

July’s last weekend had me and intern Kasey at the Lanam Club in Andover, MA to photograph Heather and Mike’s wedding. Mike is a police officer, hence the bobble head cake topper of him in uniform. The Lanam Club is on the small side but has a high-end exclusive feel that is at the same time warm and inviting with it’s gardens and rich, dark wood detail on the interior. I had Kasey working the lighting kit with me in order to capture the day with good color and tone in the photographs.

Baby Oliver

Baby Oliver

I photographed baby Oliver along with his parents Kerri and Derek in late July. I had photographed their wedding the previous year and Derek’s sister gifted them a portrait session with me which they used to document their new addition to the family. We all saw each other again for Derek’s sister’s wedding at the Bedford Village Inn in October of this year. I continually get a big smile when I look at the photo of Derek and Oliver making the same face together!

Matt & Sonya’s Zorvino Vineyards wedding

Matt & Sonya’s Zorvino Vineyards wedding

My associate photographer Nicolaus photographed Matt and Sonya’s Zorvino Vineyards wedding in Sandown, NH July 24. He had also photographed the couple for their engagement session as well. Matt was the best man for a wedding I photographed in 2008 and in keeping Kevin Jacobus Photography as the wedding photographer of choice among their group of friends, I’ll be photographing their college friends Aaron and Alyssa’s wedding in western Massachusetts in June.

Eric & Missy’s Newport Hyatt Regency Wedding

Eric & Missy’s Newport Hyatt Regency Wedding

Eric and Missy had wanted a Caribbean wedding but logistics for guests would have been unwieldy, so they chose the Newport, RI Hyatt as a close second. Between the steel drummer, expansive water views and the high heat and humidity that day, I have to say it was a pretty close comparison! Of course, odds are great for sudden downpours with those conditions by the water, and sure enough, we all dodged the rain by seconds–they had done their formal photographs beforehand and we practically ran inside as the storm clouds came up in record time. We found ourselves amidst near chaos with two weddings full of guests in the hotel lobby trying to sort out changes in plans. I have to give the Hyatt’s coordinator a big hand for being calm under pressure as well as Missy and Eric. They rolled with it and we all hustled to make it a great day. It only rained for about 20-30 minutes, but it was such a downpour that it required us to have an indoor ceremony and reception. Given how hot it was, I actually was happy to be in the air conditioning, though I got a little wet shuttling gear from the ceremony site to the reception ballroom.

We really turned things around though with a sunset and an opportunity to do an HDR (high dynamic range) portrait with the famous Newport Pell bridge as a backdrop, which is one of my favorite photos from 2010.

Land’s End Wedding

Land’s End Wedding

July 24 was another super busy day at Kevin Jacobus Photography. I was in Newport, RI, Nicolaus was at Zorvino Vineyard, and Chet was photographing Aaron and Sarah’s wedding at a family residence at Land’s End on the shore of Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, NH. They had a big tent and great views for a perfect summer Lakes Region wedding!

Corinne & Brian’s Wedding at Flag Hill Winery

Corinne & Brian’s Wedding at Flag Hill Winery

July 23 found me at the beautiful Flag Hill Winery in Lee, NH for Corinne and Brian’s wedding. Brian was quite emotional as he saw Corinne for the first time as she proceeded down the aisle. That wasn’t the end to the waterworks: not a second after the ceremony was done, the sky opened up. Not to worry, summer rains are often fleeting. Such was the case here and we were able to take advantage of the setting for some gorgeous vineyard wedding portraits.

Portrait Session: Australian and U.S. Family

Portrait Session: Australian and U.S. Family

I met up with the Wyler family for a portrait session in July at Wellesley College. That’s a great spot for portraits because there’s a mix of gardens, ponds an arboretum and great looking structures for a healthy supply of backgrounds. I had previously photographed Marisa and Paul’s engagement session and they had me back a second time when they had the whole family together, an important moment in this case as many of their relatives were visiting from Australia.

A Ride-Along with the ALS-10 Crew

A Ride-Along with the ALS-10 Crew

Telegraph reporter Andrew Wolfe and I spent a day with Rockingham Ambulance paramedics to illustrate a typical shift of an EMS crew in the Nashua area.

A Tale of Two Wrestlers: Weight Class 189

A Tale of Two Wrestlers: Weight Class 189

I worked with former Telegraph sports department writer and editor Brian Miller on this audio slideshow. Brian captured the audio, and I photographed both wrestlers that we profiled at practice and during meets. Fellow staff photographer Bob Hammerstrom helped out by covering the Nashua wrestler’s meet and finally, I edited all the photographs, the audio and produced the resulting slideshow below:

All in the Family at Danellys

All in the Family at Danellys

Business reporter Karen Spiller and I spent some time with the crew at Danellys Subs in Nashua. A family operation, the owners and their staff work quickly and efficiently to produce enough subs to stock area grocery stores on a daily basis.

Pilot Survives Plane Crash

Pilot Survives Plane Crash

Reaction from bystanders and video footage from the scene of a plane crash that narrowly missed a major shopping center as the pilot managed to aim for a fenced garden center of a Manchester, NH Wal-Mart, Nov. 2005.

Heavy Rains, Massive Devastation

Heavy Rains, Massive Devastation

Heavy rains in October of 2005 caused heavy damage to property and resulted in injuries and fatalities throughout New England. Reporter Al McKeon, Telegraph photo editor Don Himsel (a current associate photographer for Kevin Jacobus Photography) and I headed to the town of Alstead, New Hampshire to survey the damage and tell the story of the devastation in the area in the aftermath. Don shot still photographs while I worked on the video below:

Spanish for Spanish Speakers

Spanish for Spanish Speakers

This is a video story featuring a Nashua, NH teacher who teaches a Spanish class for Spanish language students. I worked on this in December of 2005 with reporter Mike Brindley while I was a photographer and multimedia producer at The Telegraph. Looks like they are revisiting the subject of Spanish speakers in Nashua today online. Here’s the video we produced previously:

Frontline: From the Emergency Room to the Battlefield

Frontline: From the Emergency Room to the Battlefield

I worked with Telegraph reporter Ashley Smith to produce this video of Southern NH Medical Center nurses sharing their thoughts on their military service in the Iraq War. Footage includes photographs and interviews about their deployment experiences serving the emergency medical needs of U.S. troops as well as captured enemy combatants.

Becoming a Citizen

Becoming a Citizen

I covered a citizenship ceremony in Concord, NH in January, 2006 for The Telegraph (of Nashua) and while working with the print reporter, I photographed and produced an audio slideshow from the event. We focused on Susannah Maria Hakeem, a young Merrimack, NH woman who told her story of persecution in Egypt because of her Coptic Christian faith and her path to becoming a citizen of the United States.

Danversport Yacht Club Wedding and Reception

Danversport Yacht Club Wedding and Reception

While I was photographing a wedding in Pelham, NH July 10, I had my associate Chet photographing Mike and Caitlin’s wedding at Danversport Yacht Club. Chet also photographed their engagement session earlier in the year. Avid Red Sox fans, the couple and their wedding guests were treated to an appearance by Wally the Green Monster when they were cutting their cake. That became a photo free-for-all, much the same as when I saw Wally appear at a wedding I photographed last year at the Hyatt Harborside.

Ami and Dave’s Wedding & Reception

Ami and Dave's Wedding & Reception

July 10 was a busy weekend for us at Kevin Jacobus Photography. Nicolaus was at the Wachusett Inn, Chet was at Danversport Yacht Club and I was photographing Ami and Dave’s wedding at Harris’ Pelham Inn. Ami and Dave were referred to me by Ami’s cousin, whose wedding I photographed the previous year at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, NH. This was another wedding where we made our portraits in between the raindrops. One eye on the sky and one on the couple, so no one gets soaked and we still get all the photos we expect!

Joe and Laura’s Wachusett Village Inn Wedding

Joe and Laura’s Wachusett Village Inn Wedding

I had Nicolaus back in short order in early July to photograph Joe and Laura’s wedding at the Wachusett Village Inn in Westminster, MA. Nicolaus also photographed their engagement session portraits and a post-wedding couple’s photo shoot as well. Formals were taken at Dunn State Pond before the ceremony, dodging rain and getting photos just in time!

Sarina & Patrick’s Bedford Village Inn Wedding

Sarina & Patrick’s Bedford Village Inn Wedding

In July, I started off the month at the Bedford Village Inn for Sarina and Patrick’s wedding. Patrick had some pretty cool cuff links-rather tough looking skull and cross bones! That struck a contrast to how nervous he looked before the ceremony. No matter, the wedding went off without a hitch, save a bit of friendly heckling from a guest to lighten the mood! Once Sarina made it down the aisle, all was well. I managed to sneak the couple outside for a few night portraits.

Jen & LeRoy’s Mechanics Hall Wedding Reception in Worcester, MA

Jen & LeRoy’s Mechanics Hall Wedding Reception in Worcester, MA

I visited Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA for the second time to photograph Jen and LeRoy’s wedding reception. The Great Hall there is huge and pretty amazing to see and photograph. Fortunately, Jen and LeRoy’s fun and large wedding party matched the scale of the ballroom–they were the largest bridal party I’ve ever photographed at 24 people! They were also among the most cooperative and organized I’ve ever had, which made photographing that many people a lot easier! We made a bunch of formal portraits at Elm Park in Worcester after their ceremony at 1st Baptist Church on Park Ave. I also photographed Jen and LeRoy’s engagement portraits as well.

Codman Estate-Jake & Heather’s Wedding Film

Codman Estate-Jake & Heather’s Wedding Film

Dan, one of my associate videographers, shot and edited Heather and Jake’s wedding film from their wedding and reception at Codman Estate in Lincoln, MA at the beginning of June. Have a look at their highlight reel:

Beth & Nate’s Sharon Community Center Wedding and Reception

Beth & Nate’s Sharon Community Center Wedding and Reception

My associate Nicolaus photographed Beth and Nate’s wedding at the Sharon Community Center in late June. This is the second wedding we’ve photographed at this venue. It’s quite a nice spot-the interior is very new and modern. Outside there’s a large lawn for ceremonies and beyond that a view of Lake Massapoag. This is also the second wedding where Nicolaus has wowed grandparents of our wedding clients. By complete coincidence, Nicolaus has worked weddings for me with Polish speaking relatives present and he is fluent in Polish. According to a guest at the wedding, Nicolaus is destined for greatness. I already knew that, but it’s nice to see others agree! While we’re on the topic of coincidences, after this event, Nicolaus and his girlfriend headed up to Acadia National Park in Maine and while strolling in Bar Harbor, they caught a glimpse of Beth and Nate who were honeymooning in the very same spot!

Kelly and Darrell’s Engagement Portrait Session at Odiorne State Park

Kelly and Darrell's Engagement Portrait Session at Odiorne State Park

I photographed Kelly and Darrell’s engagement portrait session at Odiorne State Park in Rye, NH in June. We included their cute baby daughter Ava in a number of the photographs. The couple hired us to photograph their wedding at Church Landing in Meredith, NH and we also worked with them on their wedding video as well.
