Kim & Richard’s Engagement Session at Nubble Lighthouse

Kim & Richard’s Engagement Session at Nubble Lighthouse

On Sunday August 29, I headed to York, Maine to meet up with Kim and Richard to photograph them for their engagement portraits. We concentrated our efforts around the Nubble Lighthouse on Cape Neddick, which is a popular tourist spot, so it takes a bit of creativity to keep random people out of the frame. But, there’s a tourist information building which has facilities so that they could do an outfit change for some variety. Nice couple, nice day, nice way to spend an afternoon. I headed to the beach afterwards!

Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress? Not usually. It’s an industry term that has caught on to refer to post-wedding photo sessions. The idea is to create a collection of photographs you wouldn’t be able to on your wedding day. We’ve heard from more than a few brides how they would have loved a beach wedding, circumstances usually preventing that. Most of the time the dress isn’t harmed, other needing a trip to the cleaner’s. Trash the dress may be the most commonly heard term, but it’s also called an encore session, rock the dress, drown the gown, day after session, rock the frock, etc. It’s also a time to be photographed without worrying about getting a dress dirty or if a couple just wants more time creating a series of portraits than the normal timeline of a wedding day permits. A trash the dress session is not about destroying a dress, it’s about the creation of a bold and unique set of photographs you might not otherwise do. If you want the best of both worlds, keep your wedding dress stored away if you are worried about harming it and get an inexpensive dress on eBay or other thrifty means. We’ve had a number of clients do that and report that the cheap dress they bought fit better than the one on their wedding day!

Chris & Candace’s Plum Island Beach Wedding

Chet was the photographer for Chris and Candace’s wedding on Plum Island June 19. They had their ceremony with a simple arch set up on the beach after formal photographs were taken by the lighthouse on the northern end of the island. They didn’t have a traditional bridal party, but their nieces participated in the wedding and as a really cool twist, carried pinwheels instead of bouquets. Nice weather and surroundings for a casual and elegant event!

Katie and Andrew’s Red Lion Inn Wedding Reception

Katie and Andrew’s Red Lion Inn Wedding Reception

I hadn’t photographed a wedding at the Red Lion Inn since 2007, so it was nice to get down to Cohasset, MA to be the photographer for Katie and Andrew’s wedding there June 13, 2009. Andrew’s father is the Reverend at Old South Union Church in Weymouth and he presided over the wedding ceremony which was nice–it’s more personal and moving that way.

Last time I was at Red Lion, the fire alarms went off, so it was nice to have smooth sailing this time around! We took time to do formal photographs on the beach and seawall in Cohasset and the timing and lighting was perfect.

Angel & Keith

Angel & Keith

I photographed Angel and Keith’s wedding and reception at Oceanview of Nahant. This was their second wedding to each other! They also married in Taiwan, for Angel’s family. I admit it was unusual to see photos of them at their reception in Nahant already in wedding attire!
