On Nantucket, skip the car and use a kite instead to show off your newly married status. We love it when people get creative because we love capturing life’s rich colors, variations and traditions. A spin on the usual makes for a great photograph. Moments like this might be forgotten if not documented by our sharp-eyed photojournalists. We realize how important these moments are and we’re glad to have people put their trust in us to capture photographs of their wedding day.

Sometimes it’s going beyond the posed portraits that makes a nice wedding photo, like this one taken after wedding formal portraits on a Nantucket beach. When everyone is relaxed, having fun, and unaware of us, that’s often where the real gems are. The photojournalist instinct in us from years in the newspaper business where telling stories in pictures on a daily basis was the routine has us looking for the little details and memorable moments in between like it is second nature. And it doesn’t hurt to have wedding details with local flavor, like this bride with her bouquet set in a Nantucket lightship basket. Here’s a few links to some Nantucket island basket makers:

A bride and groom react to the chilly ocean water in this photograph at their Nantucket beach wedding. Whether you have a casual beach wedding or a formal affair, we’ll work to be in position and ready to capture those reactions and moments for what is one of the most important days in most people’s lives. We carefully plan with clients so that we are able to stay ahead of the day’s events. For Nantucket, Cape Cod, and Martha’s Vineyard weddings, extra care and attention is given to travel, equipment, and planning arrangements to ensure success and a beautiful set of storytelling images.

A bride and groom have a nice detail spelled out over the fireplace in this photograph at their Nantucket wedding. We have planning sessions with clients to make sure we are aware of little details that might otherwise be overlooked. On your wedding day, you don’t have to remember to tell us about something; we’ve got it written down and we have our eyes open to capture details. We’re photojournalists, it’s our nature to document and tell a story, in this case, your wedding story.

Don was the photographer for a Nantucket wedding recently. We’ll take the time to photograph details that you’ve spent time and effort with other vendors to create a memorable wedding so you’ll have every element of a complete wedding story and an album to showcase it all. Portraits on the beach, details at a longtime family vacation spot, and a wedding ceremony to beat all others, we’ll be there quietly capturing it all.
Jeff and Tara’s Wedding at the Ashworth

I got to photograph Tara and Jeff’s wedding ceremony at my old home town, Newburyport, at the Unitarian Universalist Church June 20, 2009. Tara’s father was a former Lowell Sun photographer and by coincidence, I was a photographer there too! We were able to talk shop on the limo ride to the ceremony and to the waterfront for formal photos. Then we headed to Hampton Beach in NH for their reception at Ashworth by the Sea on Ocean Boulevard.
Katie and Andrew’s Red Lion Inn Wedding Reception

I hadn’t photographed a wedding at the Red Lion Inn since 2007, so it was nice to get down to Cohasset, MA to be the photographer for Katie and Andrew’s wedding there June 13, 2009. Andrew’s father is the Reverend at Old South Union Church in Weymouth and he presided over the wedding ceremony which was nice–it’s more personal and moving that way.
Last time I was at Red Lion, the fire alarms went off, so it was nice to have smooth sailing this time around! We took time to do formal photographs on the beach and seawall in Cohasset and the timing and lighting was perfect.

A portrait session I arranged of a group of recent brides bravely jumping into the ocean for a “trash the dress” photo was featured in today’s Gloucester Daily Times! Here’s the link to the newspaper’s online story about the event: ‘Trashing the Dress’
Here’s the press release I sent to the newspaper:
Gloucester, MA, September 20, 2009 — As many as 8 recently married women will don their wedding gowns once again for a “trash the dress” group portrait session with Kevin Jacobus Photography Sunday, Sept. 20 on Half Moon Beach at Stage Fort Park. The trend of bridal portraits with a dramatic twist is gaining popularity as brides seek portraits with the fun and excitement of reliving a part of their wedding day without worrying about getting their dress dirty.
Brides will be photographed by the NH-based wedding and portrait photographer in a variety of themed sessions concluding with 8 women jumping into the ocean in their wedding gowns for a dramatic and unusual photograph.
Half Moon Beach was chosen as a location for its combination of sandy beach and rocky outcroppings that provide a beautiful backdrop for a set of photographs that will emcompass fun and fashion.

I met up with Melissa and Adam at the Boston Public Garden May 17, 2009 to photograph their engagement session. We had a memorable, funny moment–no sooner had I warned them to watch their belongings when an old man came up and started taking their nice leather jackets. He was busted and decided better of it! Added to the excitement of the day, that’s for sure. Their wedding reception was July 31st at Promises to Keep in Derry, NH. Still working on the photos from the wedding. Here’s a few from the engagement in the meantime:
