Post Wedding Photo Shoot in Rockport, MA

Post Wedding Photo Shoot in Rockport, MA

Laura and Joe got in touch with us again to have my associate Nicolaus photograph their post wedding portrait session at Halibut Point State Park in Rockport, MA. Nicolaus photographed the couple’s engagement session and their wedding as well. We think doing a post wedding photo session is a great idea. These can be the get down and dirty trash the dress sessions, or as in this case, an opportunity to take more time for additional portraits of just the bride and groom than the wedding day normally allows. There are a couple other benefits as well. Bride’s can try a different look too, such as a hairstyle change, and the guys can mix it up with different attire. In Laura’s case, their wedding was in central Massachusetts, and she wanted some portraits by the ocean since her wedding didn’t afford that opportunity. Also, we have so many people who want to incorporate their pets, and often for logistical reasons, they can’t on the wedding day. So, either an engagement session or a “day after” wedding photo shoot can be a good option. Here’s a gallery of some additional photographs from events and portrait sessions Nicolaus has shot for Kevin Jacobus Photography in the last year.

Heather & Michael’s Lanam Club wedding

Heather & Michael’s Lanam Club wedding

July’s last weekend had me and intern Kasey at the Lanam Club in Andover, MA to photograph Heather and Mike’s wedding. Mike is a police officer, hence the bobble head cake topper of him in uniform. The Lanam Club is on the small side but has a high-end exclusive feel that is at the same time warm and inviting with it’s gardens and rich, dark wood detail on the interior. I had Kasey working the lighting kit with me in order to capture the day with good color and tone in the photographs.

Jen & LeRoy’s Mechanics Hall Wedding Reception in Worcester, MA

Jen & LeRoy’s Mechanics Hall Wedding Reception in Worcester, MA

I visited Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA for the second time to photograph Jen and LeRoy’s wedding reception. The Great Hall there is huge and pretty amazing to see and photograph. Fortunately, Jen and LeRoy’s fun and large wedding party matched the scale of the ballroom–they were the largest bridal party I’ve ever photographed at 24 people! They were also among the most cooperative and organized I’ve ever had, which made photographing that many people a lot easier! We made a bunch of formal portraits at Elm Park in Worcester after their ceremony at 1st Baptist Church on Park Ave. I also photographed Jen and LeRoy’s engagement portraits as well.

Beth & Nate’s Sharon Community Center Wedding and Reception

Beth & Nate’s Sharon Community Center Wedding and Reception

My associate Nicolaus photographed Beth and Nate’s wedding at the Sharon Community Center in late June. This is the second wedding we’ve photographed at this venue. It’s quite a nice spot-the interior is very new and modern. Outside there’s a large lawn for ceremonies and beyond that a view of Lake Massapoag. This is also the second wedding where Nicolaus has wowed grandparents of our wedding clients. By complete coincidence, Nicolaus has worked weddings for me with Polish speaking relatives present and he is fluent in Polish. According to a guest at the wedding, Nicolaus is destined for greatness. I already knew that, but it’s nice to see others agree! While we’re on the topic of coincidences, after this event, Nicolaus and his girlfriend headed up to Acadia National Park in Maine and while strolling in Bar Harbor, they caught a glimpse of Beth and Nate who were honeymooning in the very same spot!

Kaitlyn’s High School Senior Portrait

Kaitlyn's High School Senior Portrait

I was back in Groton, MA to photograph Kaitlyn for her high school senior portrait on referral from another Groton family. We did a combination of color and black and white as well as some indoor and outdoor photography. We’re able to do a few outfit changes as well as incorporate items to highlight hobbies or school activities, like sports, or in Kaitlyn’s case, her musical talents.

Old Stone Church Family Portrait Session

Old Stone Church Family Portrait Session

Before a wedding in Ipswich later in the day, I photographed the Miller family for their holiday portraits at the Old Stone Church at the Wachusett Reservoir in West Boyleston, MA. We arrived early, which is important because that is a tremendously popular site for portrait photographers and literally 4-5 other professional photographers arrived with their clients after I had gotten started. It’s easy to understand why-in the Fall, there are the leaves changing and large oaks as backdrops, as well as the stone church as well as water views for lots of variety and beautiful scenes.

Kerry & Mike’s Turner Hill Wedding Reception

Kerry & Mike’s Turner Hill Wedding Reception

Chet and I photographed Kerry & Mike’s wedding in October. Their ceremony was performed at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Topsfield, MA followed by a reception at Turner Hill in Ipswich. Kerry’s beautiful grey cat was quite interested in all the getting ready activity and appeared to want to get a free ride on the train of her dress! After the ceremony, we headed over to Turner Hill which is a stately venue for weddings and also a fine golf club. I was watching the movie Shutter Island a month or so later and was surprised to recognize Turner Hill as one of the locations in the film, although modified with computer graphics.

Dan and Carrie’s Wright’s Farm Wedding Reception in Rhode Island

Dan and Carrie’s Wright’s Farm Wedding Reception in Rhode Island

I was down in Harrisville, Rhode Island for Dan and Carrie’s wedding reception at Wright’s Farm in early October.  They were married during a ceremony at Ocean State Baptist Church in Smithfield, RI. The church has a lighted sign so they could have their name and event in lights the day of the wedding. Venue [...]

Joe and Laura’s Engagement Session at Minuteman National Historical Park

Joe and Laura's Engagement Session at Minuteman National Historical Park

My associate photographer Nicolaus took Joe and Laura to Minuteman National Historical Park in Concord, Massachusetts for their engagement session in early October so they could take advantage of the Fall colors. This is a great spot for portraits for the variety of scenes including rock walls, tall grasses, and of course the historic Old [...]

Laura and Mike’s Barn at Gibbet Hill Wedding and Reception

Laura and Mike’s Barn at Gibbet Hill Wedding and Reception

Late September found me at Laura and Mike’s wedding at the Barn at Gibbet Hill in Groton, MA. This is such an amazing venue for weddings. Their food is top-notch, the views a spectacular, the feel is rustic upscale. There are loads of great scenes for portrait possibilities. Laura actually hiked up the hill at the venue to get ready. Unusual and brave indeed, but for good purpose. Mike hiked up after her and they had their first viewing and plenty of time for many more portraits of just the couple than we are usually able to get during a normal wedding timeline. There’s the remains of a castle which make for great photographs. I’m also a preferred photographer at the Barn at Gibbet Hill–this wedding is featured on their website for their wedding functions. Their venue is part of Webber Restaurant Group which also runs Fireside Catering, Scarlet Oak Tavern, the Gibbet Hill Grill, and the Estate at Moraine Farm.

Chris & Mariamne’s wedding at Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm

Chris & Mariamne’s wedding at Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm

On the last Saturday in August, I photographed Chris and Mariamne’s wedding at the Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm in Peabody, Massachusetts. This is another one of those hidden North Shore gems that surprises the visitor with its rural setting in the middle of busy suburbs. In that regard, it reminds me of another north shore wedding venue- Moraine Farm in Beverly, MA. However, Moraine Farm has more of an estate feel and only has space for tent weddings. The Smith Barn has a nice rustic feel and there are multiple buildings, fences, lawns and an orchard to round out the possibilities for portrait photography choices. We took advantage of them all!

Jen & LeRoy’s Boston Waterfront Engagement Session in Charlestown

Jen & LeRoy's Boston Waterfront Engagement Session in Charlestown

Late August found me in Charlestown along the waterfront with a view of the Boston skyline for an engagement photo session with Jen and LeRoy. Their first date was at Tavern on the Water restaurant in Charlestown so they wanted to have their photo session around the waterfront and backdrop of Charlestown buildings. Their wedding was held at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA in June of 2010. I’ll be posting images from that wedding soon.

Engagement Session Gallery

An engagement session is a 1 hour photography experience celebrating the beginning of the journey of wedding planning. Often the first time a couple has been professionally photographed together, scheduling an engagement portrait session is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and to get to know your photographer. In addition to prints and gallery wrap canvas, a DVD slideshow set to music along with a link to share on social networks like Facebook are available in addition to photo guest books, signature boards, and a variety of photos provided by the photo shoot can be used for your Save the Date cards.
