Ben & Amy’s Gunstock Wedding

Ben & Amy's Gunstock Wedding

Associate photographer Elena and I headed up to Gunstock in Gilford, NH Sept. 18 for Ben and Amy’s wedding. Elena met the women at Misty Harbor Resort Hotel for some portraits on the beach at Lake Winnipesaukee while I photographed the groomsmen. Then we photographed the ceremony together along with the reception. There was an emotional moment during the ceremony as they held a remembrance for Ben’s father who passed a couple years ago. The mother of Ben’s best man Andrew (Holly Noble) officiated. In keeping with having close personal connections also serving as service providers, friends of theirs from the J Biddy Band performed so they had a great party band that connected with guests.

Last but certainly not least, best man Andrew stunned the crowd at the end of his speech with a surprise proposal to his girlfriend who was in attendance. This was my first time witnessing a wedding proposal right as it happened and it was a great moment. Andrew had checked with Ben for permission so as not to steal the show. He did for a little while though. Sort of hard not too with something like that! I was right on it and captured all the action as it unfolded! See it below after the page break.

Matt & Sonya’s Zorvino Vineyards wedding

Matt & Sonya’s Zorvino Vineyards wedding

My associate photographer Nicolaus photographed Matt and Sonya’s Zorvino Vineyards wedding in Sandown, NH July 24. He had also photographed the couple for their engagement session as well. Matt was the best man for a wedding I photographed in 2008 and in keeping Kevin Jacobus Photography as the wedding photographer of choice among their group of friends, I’ll be photographing their college friends Aaron and Alyssa’s wedding in western Massachusetts in June.

Ami and Dave’s Wedding & Reception

Ami and Dave's Wedding & Reception

July 10 was a busy weekend for us at Kevin Jacobus Photography. Nicolaus was at the Wachusett Inn, Chet was at Danversport Yacht Club and I was photographing Ami and Dave’s wedding at Harris’ Pelham Inn. Ami and Dave were referred to me by Ami’s cousin, whose wedding I photographed the previous year at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, NH. This was another wedding where we made our portraits in between the raindrops. One eye on the sky and one on the couple, so no one gets soaked and we still get all the photos we expect!

Kait and Mike’s Church Landing Wedding

Kait and Mike’s Church Landing Wedding

The second Saturday of September I was up at a very familiar location: Church Landing at Mill Falls in Meredith. I photographed Mike and Kait’s daytime wedding. Early start means lots of daylight. Seems like most NH wedding photographers are going to spend a fair amount of their time there as they host many weddings each year. I’ve lost count of the exact number I’ve photographed there, but it has rich picture possibilities, so there’s always a fresh angle. It’s also a great location throughout the seasons.

Sandi & Tim’s Granite Rose Wedding Reception

Sandi & Tim’s Granite Rose Wedding Reception

A day after a Lakes Region wedding with Maryann and Kim, I was further south for Sandi and Jim’s wedding at Methuen Music Hall in Methuen, MA. After the ceremony and a few formal photos, we headed back to NH for their wedding reception at the Granite Rose function facility in Hampstead. I photographed Sandi’s brother’s wedding last year as well.

Maryanne and Kim’s Home Barn wedding and Backyard Tent Reception

Maryanne and Kim’s Home Barn wedding and Backyard Tent Reception

Being a NH wedding photographer means having the opportunity to photograph weddings by the sea, in the mountains, on lakes, and in New England country barns. The latter was the case for me in mid-August for Maryanne and Kim’s wedding. They had a rustic barn on their property in the hills of in Gilford, NH, a town that borders Lake Winnipesaukee on the south side. A prominent guest hired a pilot and an aerial photographer to fly over the property between the ceremony and reception so that the newlywed couple could be photographed waving as seen from the unusual view from an airplane. In attendance was former New England Patriots cheerleader Britni Baron.

Engagement Session Gallery

Engagement Session Gallery

An engagement session is a 1 hour photography experience celebrating the beginning of the journey of wedding planning. Often the first time a couple has been professionally photographed together, scheduling an engagement portrait session is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and to get to know your photographer. In addition to prints and gallery wrap canvas, a DVD slideshow set to music along with a link to share on social networks like Facebook are available in addition to photo guest books, signature boards, and a variety of photos provided by the photo shoot can be used for your Save the Date cards.

Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress? Not usually. It’s an industry term that has caught on to refer to post-wedding photo sessions. The idea is to create a collection of photographs you wouldn’t be able to on your wedding day. We’ve heard from more than a few brides how they would have loved a beach wedding, circumstances usually preventing that. Most of the time the dress isn’t harmed, other needing a trip to the cleaner’s. Trash the dress may be the most commonly heard term, but it’s also called an encore session, rock the dress, drown the gown, day after session, rock the frock, etc. It’s also a time to be photographed without worrying about getting a dress dirty or if a couple just wants more time creating a series of portraits than the normal timeline of a wedding day permits. A trash the dress session is not about destroying a dress, it’s about the creation of a bold and unique set of photographs you might not otherwise do. If you want the best of both worlds, keep your wedding dress stored away if you are worried about harming it and get an inexpensive dress on eBay or other thrifty means. We’ve had a number of clients do that and report that the cheap dress they bought fit better than the one on their wedding day!

Maria and Bill’s Wedding at the Bedford Village Inn

Maria and Bill’s Wedding at the Bedford Village Inn

So the Bedford Village Inn happens to be the venue I’ve photographed the most events this year-4 weddings in all. The latest was Maria and Bill’s wedding. Maria’s mom surprised the couple with a horse-drawn carriage to deliver Maria and her father to the ceremony and for the newly married couple to take a ride around the property after their ceremony. Bill bravely proposed to Maria in front of a crowd at Faneuil Hall in Boston. Becca, my intern from MassArt for the summer, attended her first wedding as my assistant and to try her skills as a second photographer.

Rally for Ryan

I am excited to announce that I am taking part in a fundraiser for Ryan Cavanaugh of Nashua Thursday evening! Ryan is a 10 year-old boy who has been afflicted with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue, his entire life. He already had open-heart surgery once when he was 21 months old.

Ryan will undergo open-heart surgery to replace two heart valves and his aortic root. His surgery is scheduled for March 12. Unfortunately, his family found out that the surgery was needed only within the past few weeks, after a recent MRI. Doctors said the surgery would have to be scheduled as soon as possible.

Trevor & Sarah

Trevor & Sarah

‘I was at the Grandview Inn & Resort in Jaffrey, NH February 28, 2009 for Sarah and Trevor’s wedding. Their ceremony was held at Merrimack Valley Baptist Church. Trevor works in Maine politics, having been a legislative aide and now Grassroots Director of Maine Leads! Sarah is a nurse at Eastern Maine Medical Center and is about to start her Masters in Nursing at Husson University in Bangor, ME.

They were introduced to each other at a family party by Trevor’s sister Camara. Have a look at their cake– Sarah made her own wedding cake!

Travis & Johanna

Travis & Johanna

Johanna and Travis were married Oct. 18, 2008 at Suncook Methodist Church on Main Street in Suncook followed by a reception at Southern NH University Hospitality Center. On the way to the reception, we stopped at her grandmother’s house and at a farm along the way and we made some nice photos in the late afternoon light.

Amy & Justin

The start of October had me at Amy and Justin’s wedding at St. Catherine’s Parish in Manchester, NH, followed by a reception at the Manchester Country Club in Bedford.

A Phone Call from Iraq

A Phone Call from Iraq

I photographed Emily and Jay’s wedding Sept. 13, 2008. I first met Emily and her family while covering a story on her brother Ross when I worked for The Telegraph, who was deploying with his Marine Corps Reserve unit to Iraq. I’ve been photographing their family for 5 years, and many of their family events have been punctuated by farewells and welcome home ceremonies for Ross.

Chris & Cathleen’s Wedding at Church Landing

I was back at Church Landing in Meredith for Chris and Cathleen’s wedding August 30, 2008. Here’s a few photos….

Melinda and Jeff’s Wedding at Searles Castle

Melinda and Jeff’s Wedding at Searles Castle

I photographed Melinda and Jeff’s wedding August 24 at Searles Castle in Windham, NH. I think Melinda might possibly be one of the nicest brides I’ve ever worked with. There’s a photo below of her dancing and I think you can see that kind, happy demeanor beaming right out of her. I spent a lot [...]

Chip and Sharon’s Wedding at Church Landing

Chip and Sharon’s Wedding at Church Landing

I photographed Chip and Sharon’s wedding at Church Landing in Meredith, NH, Saturday August 23, 2008. I photographed Chip getting ready on his boat, which can be conveniently docked right at the wedding location. I was waiting beside his boat for him to return from an errand and a woman came along and asked if someone famous was getting married.

Great Green Greek Wedding at Rye Harbor State Park

Great Green Greek Wedding at Rye Harbor State Park

Alright, so that headline was a weak attempt at alliteration perhaps. It was a Greek wedding though. With green dresses, ties, bows, cake, and antique car. And it was a great wedding in a beautiful little chapel followed by a tented reception by the ocean. Erin and Tim were married August 16 at the Union Chapel in North Hampton, NH followed by a reception at Rye Harbor State Park.

Kerri and Derek’s Engagement Session at Maudslay State Park

Kerri and Derek's Engagement Session at Maudslay State Park

The last part of August has been busy– 3 weddings this Labor Day weekend! Nonetheless, I find myself with clothes pressed, batteries charged and equipment ready to go and yet a couple hours to kill before an evening wedding in Sharon, MA today, so I figure I’ll spend it updating the blog with some of my shoots from the last 2-3 weeks, starting with Kerri and Derek’s engagement session that I photographed August 12. I’ll be shooting their wedding next June at the Atkinson Country Club and Resort. They chose to do their portraits at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport. This is the second session I’ve done there this year. In Spring, it’s in bloom and it’s probably the most visually striking then. However, the landscapes are impressive anytime, and I’ve decided to post all black and white images to draw attention to that.

Stacey and Chris’s Wedding at Bear Island on Lake Winnipesaukee

Stacey and Chris’s Wedding at Bear Island on Lake Winnipesaukee

I headed up to Lake Winnipesaukee for Chris and Stacey’s wedding August 2nd. They had boats ferrying guests to Bear Island, where Stacey’s family has a vacation home. I was there all day, which meant I was able to accompany Chris and some early-arriving guests on a hike around the island. There’s an old church towards the center of the island called St. John’s on the Lake. Church-goers arrive by boat and hike up to the church for services. Their ceremony, however, was held on Stacey’s parent’s property. The rain held off until the end of the day, so kids could play all day, which meant lots of squirt gun battles and swimming. Of course, Chris and some of his adult guests took advantage of the lake setting to cool off too. I got off the island in the nick of time at the end of the day– a major thunderstorm was brewing and I just got back to the dock in Meredith, NH when the thunder and lightning started.

Deann and Jeremy’s Wedding at Pat’s Peak

Deann and Jeremy’s Wedding at Pat’s Peak

I photographed Deann and Jeremy’s wedding and reception at Pat’s Peak in Henniker, NH July 19. It was another hot and humid one, and a thunderstorm threatened all afternoon. Right as guests were seated for the outdoor ceremony, the downpour began, so we had to rush inside and do the ceremony in stifling heat. Jeremy is a Navy man-submariner specifically. His boat is on exercises in Florida, so he flew up right before the wedding. Most of his friends are military, and couldn’t make the wedding. Seems to be a theme here like my last post– military families making sacrifices, such as friends or relatives not being able to attend major family gatherings. They made the best of it, despite the heat, rain, and military obligations of friends unable to attend and partied hard nonetheless.

Emily and Jay’s Engagement Session in Nashua

Emily and Jay's Engagement Session in Nashua

I took Emily and Jay to a man-made pond along Gilson Road in Nashua, NH July 10 for an engagement session. I have known Emily’s family for years going back to when I was a photographer for The Telegraph. I spent a year covering stories on her brother Ross, a Marine Corps reservist who was part of Marine Wing Support Squadron 472 at the time. We all got to know each other quite well through good times and tough times– Ross has been deployed to Iraq before at the Al Asad air base near the Syrian border. It’ll be great seeing everyone together again when I shoot Emily’s wedding in September, although bittersweet, since Ross is heading back to Iraq for another deployment, this time to Fallujah, so he won’t be able to attend the wedding.

Laura and Chris’s Wedding on Lake Ossipee

Laura and Chris’s Wedding on Lake Ossipee

Laura and Chris had their wedding and reception on the shores of Leavitt Bay on Lake Ossipee in Center Ossipee, NH, July 5th in Laura’s parents lakeside backyard. Her mom is a wedding photographer too. I love the photograph of her becoming tearful while hugging her daughter. She was helping put Laura’s necklace on, and I think the sentiments of the moment hit her then. I had competition too- a young family member jumped in to grab a shot during the formals!
