Magazine Feature!

In the last month or so, Kevin Jacobus Photography has been featured in numerous wedding industry blogs, boston.com and New Hampshire Magazine’s Bride! We’re already a preferred vendor at Weber Restaurant Group and recently the Tewksbury Country Club featured some of my photographs in their gallery as well. Here’s the links:
New Hampshire Magazine’s BRIDE: An article quoting Kevin Jacobus featuring post wedding “rock the dress” portraits.
The Charity Wedding: Awedding industry blog that featured some of my trash the dress photography.
Boston.com: A photo gallery of recent weddings and engagements features a photograph from a wedding we worked last summer.
Examiner.com: An article on finding a second use for your wedding gown.
The Oceanside Bride: Another wedding industry blog featuring our beach bridal portraits.

Stephanie & Joel’s Bedford Village Inn Wedding

A short trip up the road on Friday, Oct 1 found me at Stephanie and Joel’s wedding at the Bedford Village Inn along with Fall intern Christine for her first wedding as an assistant. This is a fun crowd that I’ve photographed before-I photographed Stephanie’s brother Derek’s wedding at the Atkinson Country Club last year as well. Rick Flair made a surprise appearance as a courtesy of one of Joel’s groomsmen, and in the spirit of having fun, the groomsmen decided to try to fit themselves into a phone booth in the Milk Room at the inn. Somehow, they managed the feat quite well! With Christine’s help, we lit a stairway portrait of Stephanie as well as a video light portrait with the inn as the background later in the reception.
Ben & Amy’s Gunstock Wedding

Associate photographer Elena and I headed up to Gunstock in Gilford, NH Sept. 18 for Ben and Amy’s wedding. Elena met the women at Misty Harbor Resort Hotel for some portraits on the beach at Lake Winnipesaukee while I photographed the groomsmen. Then we photographed the ceremony together along with the reception. There was an emotional moment during the ceremony as they held a remembrance for Ben’s father who passed a couple years ago. The mother of Ben’s best man Andrew (Holly Noble) officiated. In keeping with having close personal connections also serving as service providers, friends of theirs from the J Biddy Band performed so they had a great party band that connected with guests.
Last but certainly not least, best man Andrew stunned the crowd at the end of his speech with a surprise proposal to his girlfriend who was in attendance. This was my first time witnessing a wedding proposal right as it happened and it was a great moment. Andrew had checked with Ben for permission so as not to steal the show. He did for a little while though. Sort of hard not too with something like that! I was right on it and captured all the action as it unfolded! See it below after the page break.
Kelly & Darrell’s Church Landing Wedding at Mill Falls

Dan and I headed up to Meredith, New Hampshire on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee for Kelly and Darrell’s wedding at Church Landing. I did the photography while Dan shot their video. The couple hired us for their engagement session, wedding photography, wedding video and a photo album! Weddings at Church Landing are very popular as they have a Sperry sailcloth tent for an outdoor wedding ceremony and a large, well decorated ballroom with a fireplace for the reception.
The couple are huge baseball fans, although for rival teams! Darrell is a Yankees fan, Kelly is a card-carrying member of Red Sox nation. She did however, budge a bit for the sake of a happy marriage by surprising Darrell with Yankees tickets- hidden in her garter of course. That got a priceless reaction during the reception!
There were some emotional moments during parent dances–Darrell danced with his sisters as his mom had passed and that brought some tears to a lot of eyes at the reception.
Thomas and Jill’s Wedding at the Castleton

My associate photographer Beth photographed Tom and Jill’s wedding at the Castleton in Windham, NH August 21. Tom is a military service member and was decked out in his dress blues for the occasion. Of course Jill looked stunning and she broke out a fedora for a little extra fun on the dance floor during the reception. He’s based in Texas, so they planned their wedding from afar. We are more than happy to work over e-mail and phone to make sure the wedding day goes off without a hitch.
Corinne & Brian’s Wedding at Flag Hill Winery

July 23 found me at the beautiful Flag Hill Winery in Lee, NH for Corinne and Brian’s wedding. Brian was quite emotional as he saw Corinne for the first time as she proceeded down the aisle. That wasn’t the end to the waterworks: not a second after the ceremony was done, the sky opened up. Not to worry, summer rains are often fleeting. Such was the case here and we were able to take advantage of the setting for some gorgeous vineyard wedding portraits.
Ami and Dave’s Wedding & Reception

July 10 was a busy weekend for us at Kevin Jacobus Photography. Nicolaus was at the Wachusett Inn, Chet was at Danversport Yacht Club and I was photographing Ami and Dave’s wedding at Harris’ Pelham Inn. Ami and Dave were referred to me by Ami’s cousin, whose wedding I photographed the previous year at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, NH. This was another wedding where we made our portraits in between the raindrops. One eye on the sky and one on the couple, so no one gets soaked and we still get all the photos we expect!
Sarina & Patrick’s Bedford Village Inn Wedding

In July, I started off the month at the Bedford Village Inn for Sarina and Patrick’s wedding. Patrick had some pretty cool cuff links-rather tough looking skull and cross bones! That struck a contrast to how nervous he looked before the ceremony. No matter, the wedding went off without a hitch, save a bit of friendly heckling from a guest to lighten the mood! Once Sarina made it down the aisle, all was well. I managed to sneak the couple outside for a few night portraits.
Kelly and Darrell’s Engagement Portrait Session at Odiorne State Park

I photographed Kelly and Darrell’s engagement portrait session at Odiorne State Park in Rye, NH in June. We included their cute baby daughter Ava in a number of the photographs. The couple hired us to photograph their wedding at Church Landing in Meredith, NH and we also worked with them on their wedding video as well.
Kelley and Josh’s Promises to Keep Wedding and Reception

Kelley and Josh were married at Promises to Keep in Derry, NH in the second week of May. Promises to Keep is another venue I frequent fairly often being a NH wedding photographer close to the facility. Kelley surprised Josh with a groom’s cake in the shape of a video game console at the reception. The joke was on him as it was suggested that this was goodbye to video games!
Church Landing Wedding and Reception

Late April found me up at Church Landing at Mill Falls in Meredith, NH to photograph Melissa and Eric’s wedding. Always a great place for a wedding, we took advantage of late afternoon light for a nice portrait with a bit of carefully placed lens flare.
Chris and Amanda’s November Wedding

It was chilly and dark with daylight savings and late Fall for the time of year, but that didn’t stop Amanda, Chris and I from making a few nice night portraits at the wedding reception at Harris’ Pelham Inn. They had their ceremony at the First Congregational Church in Pelham, NH.
Trash the Dress Photo Session, Nashua Mill Buildings

I took frequent client Trista down to the Mill buildings in downtown Nashua for a trash the dress session with an urban feel. The brick buildings, fire escapes, a pedestrian bridge and some graffiti all lend nice elements to the theme. It’s right by Mine Falls Park too, so we took advantage of that for some variety.
Masabesic Audubon Center Wedding and Reception

I photographed a visually unique wedding at Massabesic Audubon Center in Auburn, NH. Marie and Kris were married in a tent wedding followed by a reception at the nature center as well. They and their guests donned Steampunk attire which combined with lots of charismatic, free-spirited guests, made for a fun and lively wedding. Have a look at a few of my favorite photos below, and then head over to Kris and Marie’s wedding blog to read about their wedding in detail and see more of my photographs. The couple technically had a commitment ceremony, although same-sex marriage was legalized during the year they were planning their wedding.
Cheryl and Mike’s Alpine Grove Wedding and Reception in Hollis, NH

I photographed Cheryl and Mike’s wedding at Alpine Grove Banquet Facility in Hollis, NH in late September. That time of year is great for portraits because of the usual timing of a wedding when portraits are being taken–the light has a nice warm tone late in the day. Alpine Grove is a nice spot with tall pines on the bank of the Nashua River with a number of views for a variety of portrait possibilities.
James and Gail’s Flag Hill Winery Wedding

Nicolaus, one of my associates, was the photographer for James and Gail’s wedding at Flag Hill Winery in Lee, New Hampshire while I was up at Church Landing for another wedding. The couple kept the wine country theme going with a honeymoon in Italy. They had to dodge a few raindrops during their ceremony, but it cleared up enough for some outdoor portraits of the couple afterward. Hopefully they had better weather in Italy!
Kait and Mike’s Church Landing Wedding

The second Saturday of September I was up at a very familiar location: Church Landing at Mill Falls in Meredith. I photographed Mike and Kait’s daytime wedding. Early start means lots of daylight. Seems like most NH wedding photographers are going to spend a fair amount of their time there as they host many weddings each year. I’ve lost count of the exact number I’ve photographed there, but it has rich picture possibilities, so there’s always a fresh angle. It’s also a great location throughout the seasons.
Sandi & Tim’s Granite Rose Wedding Reception

A day after a Lakes Region wedding with Maryann and Kim, I was further south for Sandi and Jim’s wedding at Methuen Music Hall in Methuen, MA. After the ceremony and a few formal photos, we headed back to NH for their wedding reception at the Granite Rose function facility in Hampstead. I photographed Sandi’s brother’s wedding last year as well.
Adam and Melissa’s Promises To Keep Wedding

Well, now that the new website is up and running, time to catch up on a bunch of blog posts for weddings, events and portraits we’ve photographed over the last year. Getting started with Adam and Melissa’s wedding and reception at Promises To Keep in Derry, NH. Rain forced an indoor ceremony, but it dried up enough for outdoor portraits, which always makes me happy since the grounds at Promises to Keep are a strong point for weddings there and it would be a shame to not be able to take advantage. I also photographed their engagement session earlier in the year- take a look.
Engagement Session Gallery

An engagement session is a 1 hour photography experience celebrating the beginning of the journey of wedding planning. Often the first time a couple has been professionally photographed together, scheduling an engagement portrait session is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and to get to know your photographer. In addition to prints and gallery wrap canvas, a DVD slideshow set to music along with a link to share on social networks like Facebook are available in addition to photo guest books, signature boards, and a variety of photos provided by the photo shoot can be used for your Save the Date cards.
Trash the Dress

Trash the Dress? Not usually. It’s an industry term that has caught on to refer to post-wedding photo sessions. The idea is to create a collection of photographs you wouldn’t be able to on your wedding day. We’ve heard from more than a few brides how they would have loved a beach wedding, circumstances usually preventing that. Most of the time the dress isn’t harmed, other needing a trip to the cleaner’s. Trash the dress may be the most commonly heard term, but it’s also called an encore session, rock the dress, drown the gown, day after session, rock the frock, etc. It’s also a time to be photographed without worrying about getting a dress dirty or if a couple just wants more time creating a series of portraits than the normal timeline of a wedding day permits. A trash the dress session is not about destroying a dress, it’s about the creation of a bold and unique set of photographs you might not otherwise do. If you want the best of both worlds, keep your wedding dress stored away if you are worried about harming it and get an inexpensive dress on eBay or other thrifty means. We’ve had a number of clients do that and report that the cheap dress they bought fit better than the one on their wedding day!
